Penerangan CUPerform port crane lifting operation describes the competency required to perform container or bulk cargo handling activities using rail-mounted or rubber tyred port cranes in accordance with unloading and loading plans, port safety procedures, and operational control systems. This competency ensures that unloading and loading operations at quayside or stacking and retrieval operations at storage yard are conducted efficiently and safely under varying load and environmental conditions. It involves operating the port crane’s mechanical and electrical systems, conducting pre-operations and shutdown inspections, positioning the port crane accurately, and coordinating with the signalman and tally controller throughout the entire operation.

The crane types covered under this competency are the Quay Crane or Gantry Crane (Ship-to-Shore Crane, STS), the Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane (RTG), the Rail-Mounted Gantry Crane (RMG), the Mobile Harbour Crane (MHC), and the Level-Luffing Crane, also referred to as the Luffing Crane or Grab Unloader Crane.

The person who is competent in this CU should be able to inspect port crane physical condition, position port crane on working area, carry out container or bulk cargo unloading and loading activities and carry out port crane shutdown.

The outcome of this CU is port crane operated for unloading and loading containerised or bulk cargo safely and accurately, with crane positioning, movement, and shutdown conducted in accordance with unloading and loading plans, port terminal procedures, and equipment operating standards.

Objektif PembelajaranThe learning outcomes of this competency are to enable the trainees to perform port crane lifting operation ensuring proper inspection, safe positioning, effective lifting, and correct shutdown in accordance with port terminal procedures, manufacturer’s manual, and safe working procedures (SWP).

Upon completion of this competency unit, trainees should be able to:
1. Inspect port crane physical condition.
2. Position port crane on working area.
3. Carry out port crane lifting activities.
4. Carry out port crane shutdown.
