Tajuk CUPerform Tower Crane Lifting Operation
Penerangan CUPerform tower crane lifting operation describes the competency required to operate and monitor tower cranes (fixed and climbing) for multi-storey construction. Scope includes anti-collision and zone-limiting setup, trolleying or luffing for radius control, wind management, accurate spotting, and interface with rigging and signalling for precise placement. The scope also requires safe access and egress to crane cabin and climbing sections in compliance with Working at Height (WAH) requirements, including the use of fall protection systems, designated access routes, and controlled behaviour at elevation. Activities and records are executed in accordance with P.U.(A) 99/2024, DOSH requirements, the approved lifting plan, BS 7121 (as relevant), manufacturer manuals, and site method statements, with continuous radio/hand-signal coordination.

The crane types covered under this competency are the Hammerhead (Saddle-Jib) Tower Crane, the Flat-Top Tower Crane, the Luffing-Jib Tower Crane, and the Self-Erecting Tower Crane.

The person who is competent in this CU should be able to inspect tower crane external physical components, conduct safe access procedure and cabin entry, verify control system and display readiness, carry out trolley, slewing and hoisting system checks, execute vertical lift and horizontal movement and conduct end-of-shift shutdown and cabin lockout.

The outcome of this CU is a complete tower crane lifting operation performed accurately and safely, with the load lifted and positioned as required, while maintaining equipment integrity, load stability, and compliance with all operational and site-specific safety standards.

Objektif PembelajaranThe learning outcomes of this competency are to enable the trainees to perform tower crane lifting operation ensuring safe access, functional system checks, controlled lifting activities, and proper shutdown in accordance with lifting plan, manufacturer’s manual, and safe working procedures (SWP).

Upon completion of this competency unit, trainees should be able to:
1. Inspect tower crane external physical components.
2. Conduct safe access procedure and cabin entry.
3. Verify control system and display readiness.
4. Carry out trolley, slewing and hoisting system checks.
5. Execute vertical lift and horizontal movement.
6. Conduct end-of-shift shutdown and cabin lockout.
