Key aspects of boiler operation include startup and shutdown, monitoring, fuel management, water treatment, maintenance, safety checks and adhering to Safety, Health and Environment (SHE). The person who is competent in this CU should be able to prepare pre-startup steam boiler condition, carry out start-up steam boiler, control steam boiler operation performance, carry out shutdown steam boiler operation, carry out emergency steam boiler shutdown and record steam boiler operation activities. The outcome of this CU is the ability to operate and control steam boiler operation smoothly and safely according to manufacturer specification and regulatory requirement (OSHA 1994 and EQA 1974). |
