Tajuk CUPerform FCAW 1F, 2F, 3F and 4F fillet welding (carbon steel)
Penerangan CUPerform FCAW 1F, 2F, 3F and 4F fillet welding (carbon steel) describes the competency of a welder to utilize a continuously fed tubular wire electrode filled with flux to efficiently join two pieces of metal at a right angle, typically forming "T" shaped joints. The flux within the electrode generates a protective shielding gas as the wire melts, safeguarding the weld pool from atmospheric contamination and enhancing weld quality. This method is particularly effective for creating fillet welds with a triangular cross-section, reinforcing the joint between the metal pieces. FCAW is versatile and can be conducted in various positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead) making it suitable for diverse applications both in shops and on job sites. In the 1F for FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), the workpieces are placed horizontally, allowing the welder to apply the weld on the upper surface where the two pieces meet. This positioning provides excellent visibility and control over the weld pool, facilitating good penetration and a consistent weld bead. In the 2F the workpieces are oriented vertically, and the weld is applied horizontally at the joint. This configuration requires the welder to carefully manage the effects of gravity on the molten pool to ensure consistent penetration and produce a strong, uniform weld bead. The 3F involves welding on vertical workpieces, where the weld can be applied uphill (vertical up). Vertical up welding is typically more challenging as it necessitates precise control to prevent sagging of the weld pool, while vertical down welding can allow for faster travel speeds but still requires proper technique to maintain a strong weld. Lastly, in the 4F the workpieces remain horizontal, and the welding is performed from underneath, challenging the welder to manipulate the flux-cored electrode skilfully and control the weld pool to prevent dripping, ensuring good fusion. This position demands significant skill and focus to produce a high-quality weld, highlighting the versatility and effectiveness of FCAW in various welding scenarios.

The person who is competent in this CU should be able to carry out FCAW 1F plate fillet welding, carry out FCAW 2F plate fillet welding, carry out FCAW 3F plate fillet welding and carry out FCAW 4F plate fillet welding.

The outcome of this CU is the formation of high-quality fillet welds, characterized by their structural integrity, uniform appearance and adherence to specifications. These welds demonstrate strong bonds and adequate fusion between the base metal and weld metal, ensuring the welded components can withstand the intended stresses and loads. The proficiency in different positional welding (flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead) enables the welder
