Tajuk CU | Perform GMAW 1F, 2F, 3F and 4F fillet welding (carbon steel) |
Penerangan CU | Perform GMAW 1F, 2F, 3F and 4F fillet welding (carbon steel) describes the competency in joining process that employs a continuous solid wire electrode, fed through a welding gun, to create a weld bead at the junction of two pieces of metal meeting at a right angle, typically forming "T" shaped joints. The process utilizes shielding gas, commonly a carbon dioxide, to protect the weld pool from atmospheric contamination while an electric arc forms between the wire electrode and the base metal, melting both materials and creating a weld pool. GMAW is particularly suited for fillet welds, which have a triangular cross-section reinforcing the joint. This technique is known for its speed and efficiency, significantly increasing productivity while being user-friendly for welders of all skill levels. Additionally, GMAW produces clean welds with minimal oxidation and contamination, resulting in high-quality joints that require less post-weld cleaning compared to other methods. Welding in the 1F position involves holding the electrode at a 45-degree angle and depositing the weld bead in a straight line on a flat surface. The 2F position requires welding on a vertical surface, where the weld bead is deposited parallel to the axis of the weld, necessitating skilled control to counteract the effects of gravity. Competency in the 3F position involves welding on a vertical surface, creating the weld bead uphill (vertical up) along the axis of the weld. The 4F (overhead) position requires welding underneath the workpiece, where the welder must control the weld pool to prevent dripping, ensuring the weld is uniform and free from defect. The person who is competent in this CU should be able to carry out GMAW 1F plate fillet welding, carry out GMAW 2F plate fillet welding, carry out GMAW 3F plate fillet welding and carry out GMAW 4F plate fillet welding. The outcome of this CU is the formation of high-quality fillet welds, appearance according to specifications. These welds demonstrate strong bonds and adequate fusion between the base metal and weld metal, ensuring the welded components can withstand the intended stresses and loads. The proficiency in different positional welding (flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead) enables the welder to create consistent and defect-free welds that comply with relevant standards and guidelines. |

Objektif Pembelajaran | The learning outcomes of this competency are to enable the trainees to perform GMAW process in 1F, 2F, 3F and 4F fillet weld on carbon steel according to approved Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and work instruction. Upon completion of this competency unit, trainees should be able to: 1. Carry out GMAW 1F plate fillet welding (carbon steel). 2. Carry out GMAW 2F plate fillet welding (carbon steel). 3. Carry out GMAW 3F plate fillet welding - uphill (carbon steel). 4. Carry out GMAW 4F plate fillet welding (carbon steel). |
