Tajuk CU | Perform GTAW 1F, 2F, 3F and 4F fillet welding (carbon steel), 2F (stainless steel), 2F (aluminium) |
Penerangan CU | Perform GTAW 1F, 2F, 3F and 4F fillet welding (carbon steel), 2F (stainless steel), 2F (aluminium) describes the competency in joining two pieces of metal at a right angle, typically forming "T" shaped joints. This method employs a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the arc required to melt the base metals, while an inert gas, usually argon or helium, shields the weld area from atmospheric contamination, ensuring the integrity of the weld. The process may involve manually feeding a filler rod into the weld pool to add material to the joint. GTAW allows for excellent control over the heat input, making it suitable for welding thin materials. This technique is versatile and can be used on a variety of metals, including carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum, each requiring specific adjustments for optimal results. In the 1F the workpiece is positioned horizontally with the weld performed on the top surface, and the welder holds the torch at a 45-degree angle to create a fillet weld. In the 2F the workpiece is positioned vertically, and the weld is performed horizontally along the joint, requiring the welder to maintain control over the torch and filler rod for uniform fillet welds. The 3F involves positioning the workpiece vertically, where the weld is executed uphill (vertical up) along the joint, necessitating careful control of the weld pool and heat input for consistency. In the 4F the workpiece is held horizontally, but the weld is performed from below, requiring the welder to control the weld pool to prevent dripping and ensure a strong, uniform fillet weld. Additionally, in the 2F specifically for stainless steel, the workpiece is positioned vertically, and the weld is performed horizontally, which demands precise control of heat input to avoid distortion and material microstructure changes for a strong and consistent fillet weld. Similarly, another 2F for aluminum involves vertical placement of the workpiece, where the welder must carefully control heat due to aluminium’s high thermal conductivity and susceptibility to distortion, ensuring a clean and precise fillet weld. The person who is competent in this CU should be able to carry out GTAW 1F plate fillet welding (carbon steel), carry out GTAW 2F plate fillet welding (carbon steel), carry out GTAW 3F plate fillet welding (carbon steel), carry out GTAW 4F plate fillet welding (carbon steel), carry out GTAW 2F plate fillet welding (stainless steel) and carry out GTAW 2F plate fillet welding (aluminium). The outcome of this CU is the formation of high-quality fillet welds, characterized by their structural integrity, uniform appearance and adherence to specifications. These welds demonstrate strong bonds and adequate fusion between the base metal and weld metal, ensuring the welded components can withstand the intended stresses and loads. The proficiency in different positional welding (flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead) enables the welder to create consistent and defect-free welds that comply with relevant code and standards. |
