Penerangan CUUtilities shutdown and start-up are major activities in a process operation. The utilities shutdown can happen as unplanned or planned. Shutdown causes loss of production and revenue to the company. The unplanned utilities shut down involved various parties and section on-board the platform. The planned utilities shut down involved various parties and section onboard the platform as well as various onshore support parties/sections. The planned shutdown requires detail planning prior to the actual shutdown. This is crucial and requires a thorough meeting and close coordination between various parties. All replacement spare parts must be available at the offshore platform before the shutdown begins. During the shutdown all planned shutdown work must progress smoothly or with less interruption. Interruptions can prolong the shutdown period and delay the start up. Once all shutdown works are completed the planned start up can be executed. All isolation and blockage put in place for the shutdown must be removed prior to the start up. All equipment valves line up must follow the valve sequence.

The person who is competent is this CU should be able to coordinate utilities system start-up activities and coordinate utilities system shut down activities.

The outcome of this competency is to apply planning, effective communication and coordination skills during process/utilities shutdown and start-up activities
